About Koru

Koru is the Maori name for the curled scroll on the growing tip of the New Zealand fern plant. As it unfurls, the emerging frond reaches upward toward the sunlight. Thus, the koru has come to symbolise the unfolding of new life, positive new beginnings, renewal and rebirth, and hope for the future.

Koru Quilts is the name I chose for this enterprise when I lived in Australia and was homesick for New Zealand! It seemed appropriate, because it marked a new beginning for Agape Craft of Indonesia, and the unfolding of a new market for their quilts, which in turn gives so much support and hope to the people who make them.

My goal is to continue to support Agape Craft in their efforts to improve their rural communities through a hands-on approach, to get them out of the poverty cycle into worthwhile employment and better living standards.
